A Modernized Jazz Bass for Today's Bassists
The Player II Jazz Bass retains the aesthetic codes and ergonomics that made the Jazz Bass indispensable, while adding improvements designed for modern playing. It features a quicker feel thanks to the current neck profile, a smoother sensation with the satin finish, and refined playability with a comfortable radius fingerboard and rolled edges. The result: the Fender spirit is very much present, with a build ready to withstand rehearsals, gigs, and sessions.
For Which Bassist and Styles?
This electric bass is suitable both for the intermediate player looking to step up and the advanced bassist seeking a versatile and reliable instrument. The JJ configuration is ideal for covering a wide range: funk and snapping slap, precise and punchy rock, well-defined modern pop, round and articulate jazz, as well as solid low end for R&B. The two independent volume controls allow fine adjustment of the pickup blend, from the sharper "bridge" tone to the fuller "neck" sound.
Sound
The alder body provides a very musical balance: present mids, clear attack, and firm lows, helping the bass cut through a mix. The Alnico 5 single-coil Jazz Bass pickups emphasize dynamics and definition: well-defined notes, a smooth yet precise high end, and the typical "growl" when pushing the bridge pickup. The Volume / Volume / Tone wiring (without a selector switch) makes tone shaping immediate: you can go from a round, deep register to a more biting attack simply by adjusting the volumes, then refine with the tone control.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To maintain the original feel and balance, opt for a set of Fender USA 7250M nickel steel strings in gauge .045-.105 (manufacturer reference: 0737250406).

Questions frequently asked
Is the Fender Jazz Bass Player II suitable for funk and rock?
The JJ configuration with two Alnico 5 single-coil pickups covers funk, rock, pop, jazz, and R&B ranges. The bridge pickup provides more bite, while the neck pickup favors a broader range.
What is the neck profile of this Jazz Bass?
The maple neck features a modern C profile, a satin finish on the back, and a rosewood fingerboard with rolled edges. The 9.5-inch (241 mm) radius and 38.1 mm nut width contribute to a feel suited for contemporary playing.
How do the pickup controls work?
Two independent volume controls manage the neck and bridge pickups, with no selector switch. A master tone control softens the high-end frequencies. The wiring is Volume / Volume / Tone, allowing precise blending of the two pickups.
What strings should be installed on this Fender bass?
Fender USA 7250M strings, nickel-plated steel with a gauge of .045-.105, are recommended to preserve the original feel and balance.
Is the Fender Jazz Bass Player II RW 3-color Sunburst a passive bass?
The electronics are passive and rely on two Alnico 5 Jazz Bass single-coil pickups. The alder body contributes present mids and firm lows. The bass has 4 strings and 20 frets.
