  • Faithful reissue of the legendary 1942 J-45, developed in partnership with Gibson Custom to recapture the "Workhorse" spirit.

  • Premium all-solid tonewoods: top in thermally aged solid spruce and back/sides in solid mahogany for a rich and balanced response.

  • Carved X-bracing: generous projection, increased dynamics, and beautiful midrange openness.

  • Stage-ready with the L.R. Baggs Element Bronze VTC piezo pickup and discreet controls located in the soundhole.

A "Workhorse" Born in 1942, Revisited in the Gibson Custom Spirit

Launched in 1942, the J-45 established itself as one of Gibson's most iconic acoustics, appreciated for its efficiency, simplicity, and versatility both in the studio and on stage. This Epiphone 1942 Banner J-45 Reissue follows that tradition by adopting the design cues of the very first series: J-45 silhouette, "teardrop" pickguard, vintage tuners, and Banner aesthetics, with a modern execution designed for today's musicians.

Who Is It For, and What Styles?

This acoustic guitar is aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists seeking a characterful dreadnought capable of handling both pick playing and nuanced fingerpicking. Its natural balance makes it particularly comfortable in folk, americana, country, acoustic rock, and vocal accompaniment. Thanks to the L.R. Baggs system, it also becomes an excellent option for gigging musicians looking for a musical and immediately usable amplified sound.

Sound

The thermally aged solid spruce top promotes a responsive attack and a "already open" guitar feel, with clear highs and precise dynamics. The solid mahogany back and sides provide present mids, warm lows, and excellent overall coherence, ideal for supporting vocals without overpowering the mix. The carved X-bracing enhances projection and body resonance while maintaining a balanced response across the spectrum. When plugged in, the under-saddle pickup of the L.R. Baggs Element Bronze VTC favors clarity and stability, with volume and tone controls accessible without compromising aesthetics.
