A J-45 Reimagined in Epiphone Style, Designed for Modern Playing

Inspired by the DNA of round-shoulder dreadnoughts that have shaped the history of folk, country, and rock music, the J-45 EC Studio retains the classic design while adding an "EC" (Electric Cutaway) cutaway to meet current needs: play higher up the neck, amplify easily, and transition from rehearsal to stage without hassle. Within the range, it positions itself as a serious working acoustic, performance-oriented, with a solid top and integrated electronics.

Who Is It For, and In Which Styles?

The Epiphone J-45 EC Studio is aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists seeking a versatile, comfortable acoustic that's ready to plug in. It suits singer-songwriters, band accompanists, and stage musicians who alternate between dynamic strumming, arpeggios, and pick-based rhythms. Thanks to the cutaway and rounded C-shaped neck profile, it remains comfortable for exploring melodic lines higher up the neck.

Sound Characteristics

Its solid Sitka spruce soundboard delivers clarity, attack, and a wide dynamic range, ideal for highlighting both pick playing and fingerpicking nuances. The laminated mahogany body (back and sides) promotes a warm midrange and good stability, practical for regular use. The J-45 round-shoulder body shape provides a natural balance between bass, mids, and treble, with projection that sits well in a mix. When plugged in, the Fishman Sonicore under-saddle pickup and Fishman Presys II preamp offer a precise and usable sound, with volume, bass, and treble controls, plus a phase switch and LED tuner to secure performances.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

For the electronics, plan on a 9V battery (not included) to power the preamp. For stage and rehearsal, a high-quality 6.35 mm instrument jack cable is recommended for a reliable connection to an acoustic amplifier, mixer, or audio interface.
