A Custom Shop-Inspired Reissue: The Spirit of the First Goldtops with Humbuckers
Resulting from a collaboration between Epiphone and Gibson Custom, this 1957 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue pays tribute to the first Les Paul Goldtops equipped with humbuckers. It features the aesthetic codes and luthiery choices that forged the legend, with a decidedly "stage instrument" approach: meticulous finishes, nickel hardware, and a playing feel designed to last thanks to the long neck and 50s Rounded Medium C profile.
For Which Guitarist and Styles
This Les Paul is aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists seeking a true Les Paul experience: big sustain, round attack, and dynamics that respond well to both pick playing and nuanced fingerpicking. Ideal for rock, blues, classic rock, hard rock, soul, and pop, it also excels whenever a thick and singing tone is desired, especially for solos and power chord riffs.
The Sound
The mahogany duo (body and neck) + maple (top) is the essential recipe for the Les Paul tone: mahogany brings roundness, rich mids, and natural sustain, while maple enhances attack, definition, and bite. The Gibson Custombucker pickups (Alnico 3) offer a very musical response: firm lows, expressive mids, and smooth highs, with a nice openness when rolling back the volume. The careful wiring, CTS potentiometers, and Paper-in-Oil capacitors contribute to progressive and usable tones, perfect for transitioning from organic crunch to a thicker lead without losing clarity.
