A "1960" in Spirit: The Les Paul at the Dawn of Legend
This Epiphone 1960 Les Paul Standard Reissue follows the lineage of the 1960 Les Paul Standards, renowned for their faster playability thanks to a slimmer neck profile. Designed in partnership with Gibson Custom, it features iconic codes: "openbook" headstock, "LesPaul Model" marking, trapezoid inlays, and sunburst look, while relying on a selection of high-end components to recapture the character and dynamics expected from a great Les Paul.
Who Is It For, and What Styles?
This guitar is aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists who want a Les Paul with a vintage style but a particularly comfortable neck. It excels in rock, blues, classic rock, hard rock, and all genres seeking rich mids, a nice thickness, and expressive touch response. Players accustomed to slim necks will appreciate the "SlimTaper" feel for bends, tight chord playing, and fast runs.
The Sound
The mahogany body provides dense mids, a sense of sustain, and a warm attack, typical of solid bodies with a "rock" temperament. The maple top with AAA flamed maple veneer adds definition and extra clarity, useful for maintaining note clarity under distortion. The two Gibson Custombucker pickups (Alnico 3 magnets) deliver a very musical PAF tone: a full and velvety neck pickup for singing leads, and a sharper bridge pickup for riffs and solos that need to cut through the mix. The wiring with CTS pots and Paper-in-Oil capacitors promotes a smooth tonal response, ideal for shifting from open sounds to a more mellow register without losing dynamics.
