An "Inspired by Gibson" SG Designed for Today's Guitarists
Part of the Inspired by Gibson collection, this SG Modern Figured carries the SG DNA (thin mahogany body, easy access to high frets, sharp attack) while adding decidedly contemporary choices. The maple cap and AAA figured veneer provide a more luxurious finish, while the "modding-ready" electronics (push/pull and phase options) greatly expand the tonal palette without betraying the SG spirit.
For Which Guitarists and Styles?
The SG Modern Figured is especially aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists who want an electric guitar capable of handling rehearsals, studio, and stage with a single instrument. Its ergonomics and 24 frets make it very comfortable for rock, hard rock, modern blues, and pop. Thanks to the coil split and phase switching, it can also cover more open registers for funk/pop rhythms while retaining the punch and sustain expected from an SG.
The Sound
The mahogany + maple combination delivers a dense and singing low-midrange with added brightness and definition. The ProBucker 2 (neck) and ProBucker 3 (bridge) humbuckers provide a warm tone with rich harmonics and a good output level for riffs and leads. The coil split function (push/pull on the volume knobs) brightens the attack and produces sharper sounds, while the phase switching (push/pull on the tone knobs) adds more hollow and biting colors in the middle position. The treble bleed circuit helps maintain clarity when rolling down the volume, useful for switching from crunch to clean without losing presence.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To stay as close as possible to the original setup, choose a set of electric strings gauge 010-046 (nickel) and a 6.35 mm / 1" instrument jack cable for standard connection to your amp or pedalboard. A tuner and guitar stand ideally complete your daily gear.

Questions frequently asked
What sounds does the Epiphone SG Modern Figured Purple Burst IBGCS offer?
The ProBucker 2 humbuckers at the neck and ProBucker 3 at the bridge combine dense low mids with definition provided by the maple top. The coil split, accessible via push/pull on the volume knobs, brightens the attack. Phase switching on the tone controls offers scooped sounds in the middle position.
Is the SG Modern Figured suitable for rock and hard rock?
Thanks to its 24 frets, mahogany Asymmetrical Slim Taper neck, and ProBucker humbuckers, this guitar is suitable for rock, hard rock, modern blues, and pop riffs and leads. The 628.65 mm scale length maintains the traditional SG format.
How do the coil split and phase work on this SG?
The coil split is activated via the two push/pull volume pots, while the two push/pull tone controls manage the phase. These settings complement the three-way selector switch and the treble bleed circuit, which preserves clarity when lowering the volume.
What string gauge is installed from the factory?
The model comes with a .010-.046 set installed (.010, .013, .017, .026, .036, .046) using steel strings suitable for an electric guitar. A nickel set with the same gauge can be used to stay close to the original setup.
Is the guitar delivered with a gig bag?
A gig bag is provided with the guitar, whose hardware includes Grover Locking Rotomatic tuners with an 18:1 ratio and a LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge.
