A Rosewood "Pre-War" SJ-200: The Spirit of the First Queens of Flat-Tops
Introduced in the late 1930s, the SJ-200 established itself as a benchmark among large-format acoustics thanks to its sonic presence and spectacular aesthetics. The very first models combined a rosewood body, a combination that has become highly sought after over time. This Epiphone Pre-War SJ-200 Rosewood Reissue brings this rare chapter back to life, incorporating historical markers (SJ-200 shape, vintage ornamentation, meticulous construction) while offering reliability suited to today's musicians.
For Which Guitarists and Styles?
With its SJ-200 size and wide dynamic range, this model is particularly aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists who want an expressive, powerful, and inspiring acoustic, both in the studio and on stage. It excels in strumming (pop, rock, country, americana) to drive a band, while remaining very convincing in vocal accompaniment thanks to its balance and harmonic richness. Its built-in electronics also make it a natural ally for live performance, without compromising its acoustic identity.
Sound
The thermally aged solid spruce top provides a more "open" response, with fast attack and a played-in feel, ideal for right-hand nuances. The traditional carved X-bracing in quarter-sawn solid spruce promotes projection and stability while supporting a wide dynamic range. The solid rosewood back and sides enrich the spectrum with deep lows, bright highs, and ample sustain, particularly flattering on chords. Plugged in, the L.R. Baggs Element Bronze VTC delivers a precise and mix-friendly image, with volume and tone controls directly accessible in the soundhole for quick adjustment of presence and brightness.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
For amplification, a good quality 6.35 mm instrument jack cable is the most useful accessory to make the most of the L.R. Baggs system in rehearsal, on stage, or in recording. The included Red Line inspired hard case means you are already equipped for safe daily transport.
