Historical context and positioning in the lineup
The EVH 5150 Iconic series continues the legacy of the 5150 amps, which have become a benchmark for modern rock and hard rock, offering a more accessible approach while retaining the "high-gain" DNA that has defined decades of stage and studio tones. Inspired by the EVH 5150III lineage, this Iconic version emphasizes efficiency, versatility, and ease of use, with a design credited to amp engineer James Brown.
Who this amp is for
This head is aimed at the intermediate to advanced guitarist who wants a true all-tube response and an amp capable of handling rehearsals, gigs, and recording. It excels in styles where the attack must remain clear despite high gain: hard rock, metal, punchy alternative rock, and all lead approaches seeking sustain and presence. In the studio, the emulated DI XLR and noise gate help achieve clean, controlled takes quickly, while live the footswitchable boost allows you to cut through the mix without changing your entire settings balance.
