A Wolfgang Special designed for modern, high-energy playing

The EVH Wolfgang Special draws on the key principles that have made the Wolfgang family so renowned: fast playability, deliberately straightforward electronics and a Floyd Rose tremolo designed to accommodate expressive playing. This Mexican-made version combines an arched basswood body, a bolt-on maple neck and a dual-humbucker configuration to deliver a guitar resolutely focused on efficiency.

This is a Stock B example that sustained an impact during shipping. The body shows several marks, notably along the lower rear edge near the strap button and heel, on the top between the key and the neck pickup, as well as around the Floyd Rose. A finish crack at the heel has been glued and fully reinforced. The affected areas have been repaired and the instrument has been set up to standard, but its cosmetic marks remain visible.

This Wolfgang Special is aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists looking for a fast, stable electric guitar built for energetic amplified music. Its Wolfgang Backshape profile, hand-applied satin finishing and comfortable upper-fret access invite powerful riffs, technical solos, wide bends and rapid passages.

It naturally fits into hard rock, modern metal, alternative rock, hard-hitting punk and fusion styles. The locking Floyd Rose is particularly well suited to players using dive bombs, wide vibrato and flutter effects, while the D-Tuna allows for quick switching to Drop D tuning without sacrificing overall tuning stability.

EVH humbuckers with a dense, incisive and dynamic tone

The arched basswood body delivers a balanced tonal range, with prominent mids and an even response across the neck. Combined with the maple neck and key, it promotes a clear attack, firm low end and excellent definition in the upper registers. This combination remains balanced enough to retain clarity with high gain.

The two direct-mounted EVH Wolfgang humbuckers are installed as close to the body as possible to enhance response precision and the immediate character of the attack. The bridge pickup delivers a tight, biting tone that is highly effective for high-gain rhythm parts, palm mutes and solos that need to stand out in a mix. The neck pickup offers greater warmth and fluidity for singing leads or smoother tones.

The 3-way selector makes it easy to switch from the bridge pickup to both pickups combined, and then to the neck pickup. The low-friction EVH Bourns volume control, complemented by a Treble Bleed circuit, helps reduce the volume while preserving high-end clarity. The EVH Bourns tone control, with greater friction, can be used to soften the attack when a rounder sound is required.
