A Jazz Bass designed for the current demands of the Player series
Heir to an iconic Fender design, the Jazz Bass remains a benchmark for its immediate playability and ability to cross all styles. This Player II Modified, made in Mexico, takes the concept further with active electronics, a 5-string configuration, and performance-oriented choices, while retaining the Jazz Bass DNA: precise attack, articulated mids, and great clarity in a band setting.
For whom and for which styles
This bass is aimed at intermediate to advanced bassists looking for a reliable 5-string capable of handling funk/soul sets as well as pop/rock, fusion, gospel, or modern metal repertoire. The passive mode suits those who enjoy "old school" feel, while the active mode and 3-band EQ facilitate quick adjustments depending on the venue, amp, or DI input.
The sound
The alder body provides a classic Fender balance: firm lows, present mids, and clear highs, ideal for maintaining definition on the 5th string. The Noiseless single-coil pickups deliver the Jazz Bass grain (sharp attack, articulation, dynamics) with reduced background noise, especially appreciated with bright settings or in electrically noisy environments. The active preamp broadens the palette: the low end thickens, mids are sculpted to stand out in the mix, and highs gain precision. The active/passive switch and associated tone control keep the sound musical even in passive mode, restoring a more organic and direct character.
Recommended compatible accessories
To maintain the original feel, prefer a 5-string set with .045-.125 gauge nickel-plated steel strings (same gauge as the factory set). The bass comes with a Deluxe Gig Bag, convenient for transport and rehearsals.
