Essential Information About the Fender Player II Mustang Bass PJ

  • Mustang Format: an electric bass with a timeless Fender look, designed to be effective both on stage and in the studio.

  • Modern "C" Neck: fast and comfortable feel, with a satin back and rolled fretboard edges for smooth handling.

  • Versatile PJ Configuration: a Precision Bass Split-Coil pickup and a single-coil Jazz Bass pickup to cover punch and snap.

  • 3-Position Toggle Switch: instant switching between bridge pickup, both pickups, or middle pickup.

The Mustang Heritage Revisited in the Player II Spirit

The Mustang Bass is one of Fender's most recognizable shapes, appreciated for its compact design and character. With the Player II series, Fender retains this vintage charm while adding performance-oriented details: modern finishes, refined playability, and simple electronics to quickly find your tone, whatever the context.

For Which Bassist and Styles?

The Fender Player II Mustang Bass PJ is aimed at beginner to intermediate bassists who want a reliable and inspiring bass, as well as experienced musicians seeking a direct and versatile instrument. Thanks to the PJ combination and the 3-position switch, it adapts well to rock, pop, punk, funk, and more modern genres requiring a bass that is present and clear in the mix.

The Sound

The alder body provides a classic Fender balance: solid low mids, a clear attack, and good definition, ideal for laying down a bass line that remains audible. On the pickup side, the Alnico 5 Split-Coil Precision Bass delivers dense lows and "growling" mids, perfect for supporting the band with authority, while the Alnico 5 single-coil Jazz Bass adds precision and bite in the highs. Everything remains easy to shape via the Master Volume and Master Tone controls, and the 3-position switch allows for quick tonal changes.
