The Gemstone Series: a soprano with a "precious stone" look built to last

With the Gemstone NUS380 "Topaz," Flight offers a ukulele that focuses as much on reliability as on visual identity. The soprano format concentrates energy and responsiveness, while the lutherie highlights performance-oriented choices (arched back, bone nuts, open geared tuners). The result: an instrument designed as a "road companion" to play often, for a long time, and maintain a stable feel through rehearsals and travels.

Who is this Flight NUS380 "Topaz" for?

This soprano is perfectly suited for beginners who want to start on a serious, well-balanced, and well-equipped instrument, as well as for intermediate players seeking a lively uke for accompaniment, back-and-forth strumming, and percussive patterns. Its dynamic temperament is especially fitting for pop, folk, reggae, campfire ukulele, and anything requiring precise attack and clear rhythmic definition. Thanks to position markers (5th, 7th, 10th frets) and side dots, navigating the fretboard to explore chords, inversions, and melodies is easy.

Sound and lutherie: punch, projection, and a warm tone

The choice of an all African sapele ukulele (top, back, and sides) gives a homogeneous and coherent character: a warm sound with well-defined mids and a lively attack that perfectly supports rhythmic playing. On a soprano format, this wood emphasizes the percussive side and responsiveness: the instrument responds quickly, making strummings dynamic and accents very expressive.

The arched back is a real plus on this size: it helps concentrate energy, promoting more direct projection and an enhanced sense of "presence" under the fingers. The bone nuts (headstock and saddle) contribute to better vibration transmission: the attack is clearer, intonation gains precision, and sustain becomes more consistent, especially appreciated when alternating open chords and small melodic phrases.

Regarding feel, the okoumé African neck provides stability and comfort, while the walnut fingerboard offers a natural sensation and precise control of finger pressure. The walnut bridge contributes to the overall balance: warmth is preserved while maintaining a clear response to articulate chords well. The open geared tuners facilitate fine and stable tuning, ideal for an instrument played often and frequently retuned.
