RedNet R1: The Missing Link Between Your Dante Network and Your Control Monitoring
The Focusrite RedNet R1 is part of the Red and RedNet ecosystem as a monitoring controller and remote control designed to harness the full potential of Dante in professional environments. Whereas a "classic" monitoring controller often limits itself to a few physical inputs/outputs, the R1 stands out with a network routing approach: it can manage output groups and switch between multiple sources and destinations available on your Red interfaces, as well as within a broader Dante network.
This philosophy makes it a particularly coherent tool in multi-room studios, shared control rooms, post-production suites, and installations where multiple platforms must coexist. The R1 then becomes a single control point to switch and "sum" audio between different domains: digital audio workstations (DAWs), analog inputs/outputs, digital streams, and Dante ecosystems.
Who Is the Focusrite RedNet R1 For and How to Use It Daily?
The RedNet R1 is aimed at sound engineers, mixers, and technicians who want tactile, fast, and reliable control of monitoring without constantly relying on a mouse or software windows. During tracking, it streamlines sessions thanks to talkback, headphone output, and instant cut/attenuation functions. During mixing, it facilitates comparison between monitoring systems and reference levels, with ready-to-recall presets.
In post-production and immersive mixing, its ability to handle surround configurations up to 7.1.4 meets the needs for controlling multiple speakers, checking submixes, and quickly validating multiple listening scenarios. The A/B switch and monitoring presets speed up back-and-forth between speaker pairs, downmixes, or dedicated sets (nearfield, midfield, immersion).

Questions frequently asked
Does the Focusrite RedNet R1 work with a Dante network?
The controller integrates into a Dante network to manage routing and monitoring of network sources or destinations. It can control output groups on Red interfaces and within a broader Dante infrastructure.
Can this controller manage a Dolby Atmos system?
Monitor management covers configurations from mono to 7.1.4 surround, including Dolby Atmos. The A/B, Mute, Dim, and Solo controls facilitate recall of listening scenarios. Up to four presets allow switching between different monitoring setups.
What headphone connectivity is available?
A stereo headphone output with a 6.3 mm jack is integrated.
Can the RedNet R1 talkback use an external microphone?
An integrated microphone is provided for talkback, while an XLR input with built-in preamp accepts an external microphone. Up to four talkback destination groups are available with a Red interface.
Can the RedNet R1 be powered via PoE?
Power over Ethernet (PoE) reduces cable requirements in a control room. A 12 V DC / 1 A external power input is also provided.
