A pocket "Plexi": the JTM45 spirit, pedalboard version

The Formula B Super Plexi V2 follows the great tradition of vintage Marshall sounds, particularly the aesthetic of the JTM45 : an organic overdrive, rich in mids, that brings out the character of the guitar and the picking hand. Here, the approach is modern and pragmatic: instead of tubes, Formula B uses discrete JFET transistors (Fairchild J201) to recover the preamp sensation, natural compression, and the "alive" feel under the fingers, while maintaining a compact format and simple use on stage or in the studio.

For whom, for which styles, and in what context?

The Super Plexi V2 is aimed at guitarists who want to cover a wide palette of rock/blues rock/hard rock saturations without multiplying pedals. Channel A provides the ideal "British" grain for punchy rhythms, old-school riffs, and singing leads, while channel B allows you to cut through the mix in solos or push an amp already on the edge of breakup.

It suits both intermediate musicians and advanced players: the controls remain straightforward, but the pedal finely reacts to the guitar volume and playing nuances. On a pedalboard, it easily sits at the heart of the drive chain: the boost can serve as a volume "lift" or an extra push to thicken the saturation depending on the chosen order.

Controls, independent channels, and chaining order

The Super Plexi V2 is a 2-channel overdrive designed as a true stage tool: each channel has its own footswitch with true bypass and an amber LED. The Plexi (A) channel features three essential controls: Gain (amount of saturation), Tone (responsive EQ, effective with single coils as well as humbuckers), and Level (output level). The Boost (B) channel keeps it simple with a Volume control to adjust the transparent boost level.

The great practical strength comes from the order selector : in B>A, the boost hits the overdrive to add gain, thicken saturation, and increase sustain. In A>B, the overdrive goes first, then the boost serves to raise the volume for solos or dynamic accents, without necessarily increasing saturation as much. The result: a versatile pedal capable of shifting from an articulated crunch to a denser drive, while keeping a very quick control logic on stage.

The sound

On channel A, you find an overdrive with a vintage character : present mids, precise attack, and a "amp grain" feel that encourages playing with dynamics. The gain range allows going from light saturation that thickens the sound to a more saturated register, all while maintaining a British identity. The Tone control, particularly responsive, helps adapt the sound depending on the guitar: more open to keep air and brightness, more closed to smooth an aggressive recording or an already bright amp.

Channel B provides a transparent boost that is useful and musical: perfect to reinforce a riff, slightly compress an amp input, or give that extra presence that pushes a solo ahead of the band. Combining both channels, the Super Plexi V2 becomes a true dynamic "hub": either it pushes the drive for more saturation (B>A), or it raises the overall level after the drive (A>B) for a louder and clearer solo.
