A RAW Edition That Highlights the Genelec DNA of the 8000 Series

The RAW series adopts some of the brand's most appreciated bidirectional designs for studio, audiovisual, and home listening, with a more minimalist and "raw" approach: the natural finish avoids paint and requires less finishing material. The result: a monitor with a distinctive look, where the beauty of the recycled aluminum enclosure remains visible, and where each piece has a slightly different appearance. The 8040B RAW thus continues the legacy of Genelec monitors known for their neutrality, while adding an aesthetic signature and a more restrained approach to materials.

Who Is It For and What Are Its Uses?

The Genelec 8040B RAW is a nearfield monitor intended for environments where precision is paramount: demanding home studios, mixing consoles, editing suites, post-production, sound design, or audiovisual installations. Its clear goal is to help you make reliable decisions on EQ, dynamics, and spatialization, so your mixes translate naturally on other listening systems. Thanks to its available SPL level and bass extension, it is suitable both for moderate volume sessions and more energetic checks, while maintaining clear detail reproduction.

Acoustic Design: Neutrality, Imaging, and Control

MDE Enclosure with Minimal Diffraction: A More Consistent Response

The RAW models benefit from the timeless minimal diffraction enclosure (MDE) design, developed in collaboration with industrial designer Harri Koskinen. The curved shape and slim profile are not just for style: they contribute to more coherent reproduction, with a more consistent perceived frequency response and a more stable stereo image. In practice, this translates into easier placement of elements in the mix, better reading of reverbs, and a more controlled sense of depth.

Controlled Directivity and Consistency in the Listening Area

The metal dome tweeter incorporates Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW) technology. The benefit in the studio is maintaining a more constant tonal balance when you move slightly within the listening area, while improving center precision and image stability. Combined with an active 2-way architecture and an aluminum bass reflex enclosure, this approach aims for transparent and "colorless" reproduction: what you hear corresponds more closely to your signal and less to system artifacts.

Intelligent Signal Sensing (ISS)

When the session ends, the Intelligent Signal Sensing (ISS) circuits automatically put the speaker into standby, then reactivate it when playback resumes. A real plus for daily use: no need to think about the switch, and consumption is optimized between sessions or edits.
