A Gibson icon born to accompany great songs
Introduced in 1960, the Gibson Hummingbird was Gibson's first square-shoulder acoustic guitar. Its instantly recognizable silhouette, decorated pickguard and Heritage Cherry Sunburst finishing have helped make this model a lasting reference in the history of folk guitar. Played for more than six decades by musicians from a wide range of backgrounds, it remains associated with expressive accompaniment, expansive rhythms and sung compositions.
This Hummingbird Original follows in the tradition of the brand's most sought-after vintage instruments. It features the model's traditional aesthetic details, including multi-ply binding, mother-of-pearl parallelogram key markers, the Hummingbird truss rod cover and gold Gotoh Keystone tuners. Its modern construction provides contemporary electronics that are discreet and particularly well suited to the demands of live performance.
An expressive acoustic-electric guitar for singer-songwriters and live musicians
The Gibson Hummingbird Original is primarily aimed at intermediate, advanced and professional guitarists looking for an acoustic guitar with a strong character. Its mahogany neck with a Rounded profile offers a generous, natural feel, making it particularly comfortable for long playing sessions, vocal accompaniment and studio work.
Its versatility makes it suitable for folk, acoustic rock, country, blues, pop, americana and singer-songwriter styles. It reveals its full potential in energetic open chords, while retaining enough precision for arpeggios, melodic lines and picking passages. Thanks to its Baggs HiFi DNA system, it is equally at home on an amplified stage or in direct recording.
The broad, woody tone of the Hummingbird
The combination of a Sitka spruce top with a mahogany back and sides is one of this Hummingbird's sonic signatures. Sitka spruce provides clarity, dynamics and excellent definition in the attack, while mahogany enriches the midrange with woody warmth and highly musical presence. This combination creates a balanced voice capable of effectively supporting vocals without becoming overpowering.
The square-shoulder Hummingbird body contributes to its generous projection and strong bass foundation. Its scalloped X-bracing optimizes the vibration of the top and contributes to a lively response that is sensitive to playing nuances. In strumming, the guitar delivers broad, dense and even chords. In arpeggios, it retains excellent string-to-string clarity, with natural sustain and an attack that is sufficiently rounded for delicate accompaniment.
The traditional belly-up rosewood bridge, combined with a bone bridge saddle and TUSQ bridge pins, contributes to efficient vibration transfer. When plugged in, the Hummingbird Original retains its acoustic character thanks to the Baggs HiFi DNA system. Its two lightweight sensors, positioned on the internal bridge plate, are paired with individually optimized preamps to reproduce a rich, natural and detailed sound while providing good feedback resistance. The volume and tone controls, discreetly installed in the soundhole, allow quick sound adjustments during a performance.
