An Acoustic-Electric Amplifier for Playing and Singing
The Woodbrass GA40 is designed for guitarists who want to amplify their instrument while also having an input for a microphone. Its easily accessible controls let you get familiar with the amp quickly, whether you are new to acoustic amplification or looking for a simple setup to accompany your voice.
At home, in rehearsal or for a small acoustic performance, its 40 W RMS power provides a suitable foundation for a lightweight ensemble. The usable level will naturally depend on the venue, the accompaniment and the volume required. Weighing 10.76 kg, it can also follow you between playing sessions.
Whether you play chanson, folk, acoustic pop or fingerstyle accompaniment, the GA40 is designed for use focused on acoustic-electric guitar and voice. The auxiliary input lets you connect an external audio source to practise along with backing tracks, while the headphone output provides another listening option.
Two Inputs and Easily Accessible Front-Panel Controls
The XLR microphone input has its own volume control. The guitar connects to the 6.35mm Jack input and also benefits from a dedicated volume control, allowing you to adjust the balance between vocals and instrument without relying on a single level control. This layout is particularly well suited to musicians who accompany themselves.
The guitar section features three tone controls: bass, middle and treble. They can be used to reduce an overly prominent low end, alter the instrument's position in the mix or adjust the brightness of the attack. The Active/Passive selector completes this section, allowing you to adapt the input to your instrument's electronics, according to the GA40-specific guidelines detailed below.
A reverb control lets you adjust the amount of ambience added to the sound. The auxiliary and headphone connections are located on the front panel, along with the power switch and red power indicator light. At the rear, the mains socket and fuse holder house the power-related components.
Amplification Focused on Acoustic Clarity
The GA40 combines a 10-inch loudspeaker with a 2-inch tweeter. This configuration is designed to reproduce the body of the guitar while retaining the details of the high register: pick attack, arpeggio articulation and the nuances of fingerstyle playing. The EQ can then be used to adapt this balance to your instrument and the room.
For precise accompaniment, start with a subtle reverb, then increase it according to the desired space. The mids can help the guitar find its place against the voice, while the highs adjust its presence. The approach remains that of an acoustic-electric guitar amp: highlighting the playing and musical balance rather than seeking electric guitar distortion.
