What you need to know about the Gibson LG-2 50s Original Antique Natural acoustic-electric guitar

  • Particularly comfortable compact LG-2 body, with surprising projection and depth for a small-bodied guitar.
  • Solid Sitka spruce top, solid mahogany back and sides, for a warm, balanced and articulate response.
  • Traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing and dovetail neck-to-body joint assembled with hot hide glue.
  • Baggs HiFi DNA active pickup system, designed to naturally reproduce the instrument's acoustic character on stage or in the studio.

The return of an iconic 1950s Gibson small-body acoustic

Introduced in 1942 during Gibson's famous "Banner" period, the LG-2 was designed as the successor to the L-00. Released alongside models that would become essential, such as the J-45 and Southern Jumbo, it quickly established itself thanks to its ability to deliver a full, warm and balanced sound in a more compact format.

The LG-2 50s Original Antique Natural reintroduces this historic shape to the Gibson acoustic range, with specifications inspired by sought-after examples from the 1950s. It is an excellent alternative to the brand's larger body styles: it retains Gibson's sonic identity while offering immediate playability and a reduced footprint.

Its Antique Natural finishing highlights the natural grain of the Sitka spruce top and the mahogany body. The three-ply top binding, single-ply back binding, teardrop-shaped tortoise pickguard and cream tuner buttons reinforce its resolutely vintage elegance.

An expressive acoustic-electric guitar for everyday playing, the stage and the studio

This Gibson LG-2 50s Original is aimed at intermediate guitarists as well as experienced musicians looking for a high-end acoustic that is easy to play. Its compact format will particularly appeal to guitarists who prefer a less bulky body than a jumbo or dreadnought, without compromising on tonal richness.

It is naturally suited to folk, acoustic blues, country, Americana, pop, singer-songwriter styles and vocal accompaniment. Its balanced response also allows for a variety of approaches: nuanced fingerstyle playing, detailed arpeggios, moderate strumming or more energetic rhythmic accompaniment.

The LG-2 also truly comes into its own in recording situations. Its distinctive voice can create an interesting contrast when doubled with a larger acoustic guitar. It can thus add precision, warmth in the midrange and a complementary texture to a dense arrangement.

The warmth of mahogany and the clarity of Sitka spruce

The construction of this acoustic-electric guitar is based on a solid Sitka spruce top paired with solid mahogany back and sides. Sitka spruce promotes a clear attack, excellent responsiveness and an even response across the entire register. Compared with the mahogany tops found on some vintage LG-2 models, this spruce top provides greater brightness, resonance and balance.

The mahogany back and sides enrich the midrange, add warmth to the sound and help the guitar retain excellent definition in chords. This combination delivers a direct and musical tone, with controlled bass, present mids and sufficiently open highs to bring out the nuances of your playing.

Traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing supports the vibration of the top while contributing to projection and sustain. The slanted rectangular rosewood bridge with closed slot, along with the bone saddle, optimizes the transmission of string vibrations to the top. The bone nut also contributes to a precise and dynamic response.

When plugged in, the LG-2 50s Original retains its personality thanks to the Baggs HiFi DNA active system exclusive to Gibson. Two lightweight sensors are installed on the internal bridge plate and paired with optimized preamps. This design delivers a full, natural acoustic sound while preserving the subtleties of the attack, body resonances and the instrument's distinctive character.

The volume and tone controls, discreetly installed in the soundhole, allow you to quickly adjust the output level and tonal color during a performance. The system also offers feedback resistance comparable to that of an under-saddle pickup, making it a reliable solution for rehearsals and concerts.
