The Return of a 1958 Icon
Visionary at its release, the Flying V was produced in very limited quantities in the late 1950s before becoming a rock symbol. This Custom Shop reissue revives the futuristic aesthetics and period specifications, featuring a Korina selection, faithful craftsmanship, and a subtly aged VOS finish that evokes a carefully preserved guitar.
For Whom and Which Styles
Designed for intermediate to professional guitarists, this V excels in rock, hard rock, powerful blues, and classic metal. The "V" shape offers easy access to the upper frets and a strong stage presence, while the ergonomics remain surprisingly comfortable for standing play with a strap.
The Sound
Korina delivers singing mids, tight lows, and clear highs. The ABR-1 bridge + lacquered brass through-body tailpiece enhance attack and sustain. The Custom Bucker pickups provide the organic grain of PAFs: warmth and definition in the neck position, bite and articulation at the bridge, and a harmonically rich middle position. The two independent volumes and single tone control (CTS 500K "Vintage Taper") offer fine, progressive nuances via the 3-way selector switch.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
- Nickel string set 10-46: matching the original gauge to preserve tension and tonal balance.
- 6.35 mm (1/4") instrument cable of quality: guaranteed Switchcraft compatibility.
- Leather strap for standard strap buttons (2 points): comfort and stability for standing play.
- Nitro-compatible maintenance product and microfiber cloth for the VOS finish.

The V shape is designed to remain comfortable when playing standing up with a strap. Two brass strap buttons are installed, and a rubber strip is present on the lower edge.

The original setup uses 10-46 gauge: 0.010, 0.013, 0.017, 0.026, 0.036, and 0.046. Nickel steel strings of the same gauge allow for the intended tension to be maintained.
