An Icon Born in 1961
In 1961, the SG succeeded the late 1950s Les Paul models and briefly carried the "Les Paul" name. This Historic Reissue captures the spirit of those early SGs: sharp profile, exceptional access to high frets, and timeless aesthetics. Designed by the Custom Shop, it preserves a major chapter of rock history with extreme attention to period details.
For Which Guitarist and Styles?
Designed for intermediate to expert guitarists seeking an expressive and responsive electric guitar. Its natural playground: classic rock, hard rock, muscular blues, but also pop and indie thanks to its dynamics and precise attack. The Slim Taper profile facilitates fast runs, controlled bends, and tight rhythms.
Sound
The solid mahogany body and neck deliver rich mids and generous sustain. The non-paraffinated Custombucker Alnico III pickups offer moderate output, silky highs, and firm lows: clarity in clean tones, bite in crunch, and a beautiful natural compression in overdrive. The ABR-1 and aluminum stopbar reduce mass, increase resonance, and provide a lively response to attack. Premium component electronics (CTS 500K pots, Black Beauty capacitors) preserve nuance and spectral openness.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
Set of nickel steel electric strings 10-46 to maintain Gibson scale length tension/play balance; quality 6.35 mm jack cable for a clean signal; capo for 6-string electric guitar (nut width ~43 mm) for quick transpositions; leather strap with sturdy attachments; stable guitar stand to protect the finish between sessions.
