An SG Designed for Today's Guitarists
The SG Modern incorporates the hallmarks that made the SG famous (silhouette, access to the highest frets, lightweight feel), adding modern features borrowed from Gibson's more contemporary lineup. The mahogany + maple combination evokes Les Paul DNA, while the construction and ergonomics remain SG-oriented. The result: an electric guitar built for stage and studio, with a distinct Gibson personality and a broader palette than a traditional SG.
Who Is It For, and Which Styles?
The Gibson SG Modern is aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists seeking a fast, precise instrument capable of covering multiple genres without switching guitars. It excels in rock, hard rock, blues, and pop, while remaining comfortable with sharper, more articulated tones thanks to the coil-tap. Its typically Gibson short scale favors a smooth feel and comfortable bends.
The Sound
The combination of a mahogany body and a AA figured maple top delivers a highly effective balance: rich mids, a crisper attack, and better clarity when pushing gain. The BurstBucker Pro humbuckers provide a powerful, dynamic tone with a clear response for riffs and generous sustain for leads. The push/pull controls expand the tonal range: in coil-tap mode, the guitar gains clarity and bite, ideal for airier rhythms and "single coil" style attack.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To get the most out of this SG, you can choose a 10-46 gauge string set (original gauge), a good quality 6.35 mm jack cable to preserve highs, and a standard strap (practical for rehearsals and stage). The included hard case already ensures perfect protection during transport.
