An SG in the Direct Lineage of 1961
In 1961, the evolution of the Les Paul model led to a thinner, sharper design that became the icon now known as the SG. The Gibson SG Standard '61 follows this tradition with a mahogany construction, early sixties-style aesthetics, and electronics designed to recapture the "old school" tone... with the energy needed to cross all genres.
For Whom and Which Styles?
This SG is aimed at intermediate to expert guitarists who want an expressive electric guitar that feels light and is very responsive to right-hand attack. It excels in rock, blues, hard rock, and classic rock, while remaining convincing in edgy pop or more modern styles when pushing the gain.
The Sound
The mahogany body + neck duo delivers a warm signature rich in mids, with natural sustain and solid density in riffs. The 60s Burstbucker humbuckers provide an articulated vintage tone, with a more pronounced presence of highs to highlight harmonics and maintain definition when saturated. The 2 Volume / 2 Tone controls offer real tonal nuance, and the hand-wired circuitry with Orange Drop capacitors helps preserve a musical and usable tone sweep, from open clean to tight crunch.
