A Piece of Gibson History Updated for Today
The Gibson Theodore Standard is based on drawings and notes attributed to Ted McCarty, a major figure of Gibson's golden age. Long remaining a project, this model is now reborn as a limited Custom Shop edition, featuring a strong visual personality: "scimitar" headstock, original lines, and Florentine double cutaways. A unique offering in the range, designed for guitarists who want a Gibson with collector character without sacrificing modern performance.
Who Is It For, and What Styles?
With its mahogany SlimTaper neck and very accessible high-end ergonomics, this Theodore Standard is particularly suited for intermediate to advanced guitarists seeking a vintage-inspired electric guitar that is comfortable both on stage and in the studio. Its tonal palette makes it comfortable in blues, classic rock, pop, soul, and even more aggressive rock as soon as the amp starts to crunch.
The Sound
The mahogany body provides a dense and warm sonic foundation, with rich low-mids and very present natural sustain. The 57 Classic and 57 Classic Plus humbuckers emphasize a vintage tone: thick, musical chords on the neck pickup, and a sharper bridge pickup register for riffs, lead, and dynamic rhythms. The manual wiring combined with Orange Drop capacitors promotes a progressive response from the controls, ideal for sculpting brightness levels and transitioning from a smooth clean to an expressive crunch simply via volume and tone knobs.
