What Harrison De-Esser Is For


Harrison De-Esser is an audio plugin designed to reduce sibilance (overly prominent "s," "ch," "t" sounds) that make a voice harsh, aggressive, or tiring to listen to. It is aimed at musical productions (lead vocals, choirs, rap, podcasts) as well as applications requiring high intelligibility such as film dialogue, post-production, and broadcasting. The goal is simple: to restore refined vocal clarity and a high level of listening comfort without crushing the performance or dulling the high-frequency spectrum.

Auto-Solo and Band Solo: find the right band instantly


Sibilance rarely occurs in the same frequency range from one voice to another and can vary depending on the microphone, distance, or diction. The Auto-Solo and Band Solo modes simplify diagnosis by isolating the affected area: you quickly identify the problematic frequency range, then adjust the processing with great efficiency. A real time-saver for mix engineers, especially on busy sessions (lead vocals, doubles, harmonies, voice-overs).



Up to 12 dB reduction for difficult cases


When a take is particularly bright, compressed, or recorded with a mic that accentuates consonants, a timid de-esser is not enough. Harrison De-Esser offers a reduction capacity up to 12 dB to handle persistent sibilance while maintaining musical control over the result. This headroom is also useful for softening certain instruments or sources rich in high transients when they become abrasive in the mix context.



Granular control and visual feedback


Adjusting the threshold and depth allows you to precisely define when the processing activates and how much it affects the signal. Input and de-essing meters provide clear visual feedback to calibrate the effect without over-processing. All this is supported by the main AVA DS graph, offering six dimensions of control to finely sculpt the plugin's behavior, whether you are performing surgical edits on a solo vocal or quick balancing on a dialogue bus.



Very low latency for recording and live use


Thanks to very low latency processing, Harrison De-Esser integrates easily into monitoring chains or real-time workflows.
