What MPC Compressor Is For
MPC Compressor is a compression plugin designed to control dynamics without sacrificing the energy of the signal. It is suitable for both mixing applications (vocals, bass, snare, drum bus, acoustic instruments) and bus and pre-mastering processing when you want to gain stability, density, and clarity. Its approach emphasizes quick decision-making through visualization while maintaining a musical character, from subtle control to more pronounced compression.
Whether you want to tame transients, even out an uneven performance, enhance the "glue" feeling on a group of instruments, or create controlled pumping via the sidechain, MPC Compressor provides a clear and modern signal chain designed for current productions and demanding mixes.
Main Features
See Compression, Decide Faster
The history function allows you to visualize compression over time and immediately compare what you hear with what the compressor is actually doing. In practice, this avoids "blind" adjustments: you check the stability of gain reduction, the impact of transients, and the effect of releases over time. Ideal for finely tuning a drum bus, locking a lead vocal, or stabilizing a bass without flattening it.
Pgm (Program) Mode: Punch and Coherence on Complex Signals
The Pgm button is designed for sources with high variability (live performances, broadcast, dynamic drums, highly expressive vocals). By engaging three parallel detectors set at different speeds, the compressor maintains a more consistent behavior across a wide dynamic range. The result: the signal retains its natural impact while staying controlled, with more measured gain reduction when the level remains high for longer.
Depth: Anti-Overcompression Safety
The Depth control introduces smarter management of gain reduction: you can limit the compression depth to avoid crushing the signal. This is especially useful when pushing more aggressive settings (lower threshold, higher ratio) while keeping a safety margin on peaks. On vocals, it helps preserve articulation and presence; on a bus, it maintains the mix's breathing while densifying the whole.
Creative and Precise Sidechain
MPC Compressor goes beyond standard sidechain with an external sidechain input, sidechain monitoring, and a sidechain equalizer offering seven selectable shapes. You can thus direct the compressor's triggering to a specific frequency range: for example, let the kick drum's low end pass without excessive triggering, tame sibilance, or conversely accentuate a reaction in the low-midrange to control an intrusive bass.
This flexibility allows switching from a more modern behavior to a more vintage coloration via the sidechain equalizer, while maintaining a clean and controlled approach when transparency is preferred.
Complete Controls and Immediate Workflow
The plugin offers a full compressor with time-constant variables covering essential settings: threshold, ratio, attack, release, and make-up gain. Additional functions Depth, Knee, and Pgm complete the set to handle "difficult" sources without losing musical character. To speed up learning, eight presets are included, covering a wide range of common compression tasks, from vocals to rhythmic bus.

Questions frequently asked
Is the Harrison MPC Compressor compatible with Mac Apple Silicon and Windows 11?
Compatibility covers macOS Catalina 10.15, Big Sur 11, and Monterey 12, on M1/ARM or Intel Dual Core processors at a minimum of 2.4 GHz. On Windows, the plugin works on Windows 10 and Windows 11 64-bit systems with an Intel Core 2 or equivalent processor at a minimum of 2.4 GHz. 8 GB of RAM is recommended.
Which plugin formats are available?
On Mac, the AU, VST2, VST3, and AAX Native formats are offered. On 64-bit Windows, the VST2, VST3, and AAX Native formats are available.
How does the compressor's Pgm mode work?
The Pgm mode activates three parallel detectors set to different speeds. This feature maintains consistent behavior on signals with a wide dynamic range and further reduces compression when the level remains high for a long time.
Is the sidechain adjustable with precision?
The external sidechain input, sidechain monitoring, and seven-shape sidechain EQ allow precise targeting of the trigger according to the mix's frequencies. The sidechain EQ also enables shifting the compression style from a modern approach to a vintage coloring.
Does the Depth control limit overcompression?
The Depth control limits the gain reduction depth to avoid crushing the signal, even with a low threshold or a high ratio.
