Composed in 1878 during Pablo de Sarasate's first Scandinavian tour, the Romanza andaluza (Spanish Dance No. 3) is one of the two dances of Op. 22, alongside the "Jota navarra." In the spirit of the Spanish Dances, Sarasate combines melodic materials inspired by tradition with his elegant, immediately recognizable musical language, blending lyricism and Iberian color.
Unlike its more brilliant sister piece, this Romanza quickly won over audiences with its expressive singing and poetry, becoming one of Sarasate's most frequently performed works.
