A '70s console spirit, designed for today's recording
This preamplifier follows the tradition of British console preamps from the 1970s, prized for their midrange presence, harmonic character, and ability to "push forward" a source in a mix. Where vintage chains required adding preamps, converters, and routing separately, this design combines 8 channels of Class A preamplification and 24-bit / 192 kHz conversion in a single chassis, delivering a characterful sound quickly and immediately usable in a DAW.
The 19-inch / 3U rack format makes it a studio centerpiece while remaining portable enough for remote recordings, live sessions, and multi-mic setups demanding consistent results.
Who is it for and what are the uses?
This model targets sound engineers, demanding home studio users, and recording facilities wanting to capture multiple sources simultaneously without compromise: drums (overheads, snare, toms), rhythm sections, multiple vocal takes, acoustic ensembles, amp re-amping, as well as rehearsal and concert recordings.
With its MIC, LINE inputs and 2 Hi-Z instrument inputs, it covers common hybrid studio scenarios: condenser or dynamic microphones, external preamp outputs, synths, drum machines, basses, and guitars direct. The goal is clear: capture up to 8 signals with a coherent analog signature, then convert and send them to the recording system without multiplying devices.

Questions frequently asked
Does the Heritage Audio Super 8 allow recording a full drum kit?
Its 8 Class A preamp channels enable simultaneous capture of overheads, snare, toms, and other drum microphones. Channels 1 and 2 feature a high-pass filter adjustable from 20 to 250 Hz and a pad for high-level sources.
What digital connections are available?
A/D and D/A conversion reaches 24-bit / 192 kHz, with digital outputs for ADAT SMUX, AES/EBU, and S/PDIF. A Wordclock input and output on BNC ensure synchronization within a digital setup.
Can a guitar or bass be plugged in directly?
Two Hi-Z instrument inputs on 6.3 mm jacks are provided for direct guitar and bass connection.
What sonic signature do the Super 8 preamps provide?
Each channel uses a 3-stage Class A topology inspired by the 73 style, with Carnhill transformers. This design delivers midrange presence and harmonic richness, with a stable low-end foundation.
Is the Super 8 suitable for a studio rack?
The 19-inch chassis occupies 3U and measures 482 x 88 x 280 mm. Its 8 XLR mic inputs, 8 line inputs on Sub-D25, and 8 XLR line outputs facilitate integration into a tracking room. Its weight is 9.45 kg.
