Summary of This Book

Le Petit Altorama is a repertoire designed to give aspiring violists the pleasure of playing "real pieces" from the very beginning. The book brings together Bruno Pasquier, a major figure in the viola world in France, and Bruno Garlej, a recognized pedagogue, to offer short, effective pieces particularly well suited to the range and technical reflexes of beginners.

Each title results from precise arrangement work, designed to remain comfortable for both bow and left hand, while gradually establishing essential foundations: intonation, placement, rhythmic regularity, articulation, and initial stylistic reflexes. The student thus explores contrasting worlds, from classical to film music, without losing the pedagogical thread of the...RAMA collection: originality, quality of arrangements, progression, and variety.

Listening is at the heart of the method thanks to the accompanying CD recorded by Bruno Pasquier. This recording serves both as a model (tone, dynamics, musical breathing) and as a source of inspiration, helping the student to build a more singing interpretation. The color layout, very spacious, promotes comfortable reading, particularly appreciated during the first years.

Among the 32 included pieces are notably: "J'ai vu le loup, le renard et le lièvre," "Le Temps des cerises," "Ode to Joy" (L. van Beethoven), "Forrest Gump," "In a Persian Market" (A. Ketelbey), "Once Upon a Time in the West," "Tristesse" (F. Chopin), "Moon River," "Ah! vous dirai-je, maman" (J. C. F. Bach), "Fiddler on the Roof," "Aida March" (G. Verdi), and "Strangers in the Night." Includes separate piano accompaniment booklet.
