Marine Band Crossover: The Spirit of a Legend, Modernized Manufacturing

Within the Hohner universe, the Marine Band family holds a special place: a historic reference for diatonic harmonicas, particularly appreciated for its character and sound identity. The Marine Band Crossover follows this tradition while bringing a more modern manufacturing approach: screwed assemblies (instead of nailed), refined finishes, and a focus on better airtightness. The result: a model designed for demanding musicians who want a versatile instrument, effective both acoustically and when amplified.

For Which Musician and Styles?

The Hohner Marine Band Crossover is aimed at intermediate to professional harmonica players seeking a diatonic that can hold up in rehearsals, on stage, and in the studio. Thanks to its "Richter" tuning, it excels in styles where one easily alternates between rhythmic chord playing and melodic playing : blues, rock, soul, funk, folk, country, as well as jazz and pop when playing "positions" and using bending techniques.

Sound and Design

With its 10-hole format and 20 reeds, this diatonic offers a clear sound and good projection. The stable and well-crafted laminated bamboo comb contributes to a tighter playing feel, with airtightness that facilitates note attack and breath control. The 0.9-millimeter brass reeds enhance responsiveness and presence, while the screwed stainless steel covers ensure durability and comfort. The SuperGlide (lacquered) mouthpiece coating promotes a smooth glide on the lips, appreciated during fast transitions.

Diatonic or Chromatic?

A diatonic harmonica is designed around a key (here G/Sol ) and a layout that facilitates chords when blowing/drawing, while allowing bending to obtain certain "missing" notes and the expressive color typical of blues. Conversely, a chromatic harmonica provides access to all notes via a dedicated mechanism, for a very linear and versatile playing style. The Marine Band Crossover is indeed a diatonic, ideal if you seek grain, dynamics, and a responsive instrument for expressive techniques.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

The harmonica comes with a rigid neoprene case, practical for protecting the instrument and carrying it easily. For maintenance, a soft cloth and regular cleaning after playing will help preserve the smoothness and responsiveness of the reeds.
