Freqlux: Hotone's Vision of a Modern Harmonizer Designed for Creation

Where many pitch shifters limit themselves to one or two voices and "standard" settings, the Freqlux takes the idea further: three separate transposition engines, each configurable in a different mode. The result: you can build a classic harmony, a chorus-style doubling, and an arpeggiated line simultaneously, or conversely lock the three modules together to achieve a massive, ultra-precise, and perfectly tuned stack.
This "tri-engine" approach places the NP-200 Freqlux at the intersection of harmonizer, sound design, and performance tool. It's not just an accompaniment effect but a playing system that transforms a guitar (or bass, synth, voice via preamp) into a rich, controllable polyphonic source.

Which Musicians and Styles is the NP-200 Freqlux Made For?

The Freqlux is aimed equally at curious guitarists and stage musicians who want to secure accurate harmonies that are reproducible from one gig to another. In rock and pop, it provides clean thirds and sixths, and a stereo widening that fills the mix. In modern metal, it becomes a machine for aggressive doubling, with tight intervals and controlled attack to remain clear on fast palm mutes.
Fans of ambient, post-rock, and electronic music will find a real goldmine here: between ARP, feedback, modulation, and independent panning, the pedal lends itself to moving pads, cascading intervals, and "synthetic" textures without losing the instrument's touch. In the studio, presets and stereo routing speed up production; live, the two footswitch modes allow switching between patches or playing pitch like a controller.

Controls, Modes, and Innovations: A Highly Modular Harmony Engine

Each pitch module can operate in a different mode: Poly Shift for free polyphonic transposition, Key Track for key- and scale-guided harmonies, Detune for fine chorus-style detuning and natural stereo widening, ARP to generate arpeggiated transpositions (controllable via expression pedal or Flux function), and Mod Only to keep modulation without changing pitch.
The real strength lies in the fine sculpting per voice: Pan and Level independent per module to build a credible stereo image, plus Tone and Attack to adjust brightness and the feel of the attack for each transposed voice. Each module also has a dedicated MOD section, ideal for adding movement (like vibrato) and differentiating voices instead of creating a uniform block.
The Feedback section opens the door to hybrid effects between pitch and delay: you reinject the transposed signal, adjust delay time and number of repeats to create evolving harmonic trails. Thanks to the Mod Feedback logic, the modulation itself can be reinjected, which densifies textures and enhances the "immersion" effect. To keep a clean sound in live contexts, a Trails switch manages the persistence of feedback tails during changes or cutoffs.
Finally, the Freqlux was designed for performance: two footswitch control systems (Preset Mode and Control Mode). In Control Mode, the Flux footswitch acts as a playable pitch control: with attack and release parameters, you get automatic glides, and you can customize the curve to achieve a more gradual, abrupt, or "synth-like" feel. On the integration side, the EXP or MIDI input allows assigning additional parameters, and USB-C facilitates updates and preset management.

Sound

The Freqlux stands out with a polyphonic approach designed to stay musical: chords retain their structure, and transposition aims for stable tuning, essential for multi-voice harmonies. Being able to adjust Attack and Tone per module helps avoid an overly clinical "perfect copy" effect: for example, you can soften the attack of a high voice to make it float behind the playing, while keeping a more direct voice in the center.
In Detune mode, the effect leans toward subtle, wide thickening, particularly effective in stereo: perfect for adding dimension to a clean or crunch tone without falling into exaggerated chorus. The ARP and Feedback modes shift the pedal into sound design territory: rhythmic interval patterns, cascading harmonic trails, vibrato movements that multiply and transform over repetitions. And thanks to the dry signal in analog bypass, the direct signal retains its identity and dynamics even in complex settings.
