The AZ Series: A Modern Platform Designed for the "Third Phase" of Playing

With the AZ series, Ibanez aimed to create a guitar capable of supporting the evolution of contemporary techniques while maintaining "traditional" reference points in playability and balance. The concept emphasizes synchronization between the instrument and the guitarist: Super All Access heel for effortless access to the upper frets, ergonomic body, and a neck profile designed to accommodate a wide variety of left-hand positions and right-hand attacks.

Who Is It For, and In Which Styles?

This Ibanez AZ is aimed at intermediate to expert guitarists seeking a versatile, precise, and comfortable electric guitar, equally at home in the studio or on stage. Thanks to the Hyperion set and dyna-MIX9, it easily covers funk, pop, modern rock, fusion, prog, and all approaches requiring quick tone changes (snappy clean rhythms, articulate crunch, singing leads).

The Sound

The craftsmanship combines an alder body (clear attack, balanced mids) with a S-TECH WOOD roasted maple neck and fingerboard for a lively response and excellent definition. The Seymour Duncan Hyperion pickups (Alnico-5 magnets, moderate output) preserve the clarity of the fundamental note under gain and remain consistent string-to-string, aiding both complex chords and legato or hybrid picking lines. The dyna-MIX9 electronics and its Alter switch multiply the combinations: credible single-coil tones, bright intermediate positions, and a bridge humbucker capable of going from precise bite to a denser lead while maintaining a clear attack.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To stay as close as possible to the original feel, opt for D'Addario EXL110 strings in gauge 10-46 (.010 / .013 / .017 / .026 / .036 / .046), identical to the factory setup indicated. This ensures consistent tension with the setup, tremolo, and overall instrument balance.
