The Essentials to Know About the Ibanez BTB945 Bass

  • Neck-through construction: generous sustain and smooth access to the high notes, ideal for modern playing across the entire range.

  • Nordstrand Big Single pickups: the attack and definition of a single coil, with a soapbar format delivering a powerful and edgy character.

  • Ibanez Custom Electronics 3-band EQ: effective settings, with a 3-position mid selector and EQ bypass to quickly switch from a sculpted sound to a more direct tone.

  • 35" / 889 mm scale length: firm and precise low end, particularly appreciated on the B string.

A BTB Designed for Precision and Contemporary Playing

The BTB945 fits within the spirit of the BTB series: a performance-oriented bass designed for stability, intonation, and sonic power. Its 5-piece maple/walnut neck reinforced with graphite rods, combined with neck-through construction, aims for consistent feel and very even response, even with low action and energetic playing.

For Which Bassist and Styles?

This 5-string bass is especially suited for intermediate to advanced bassists seeking a wide dynamic range and an instrument comfortable on stage as well as in the studio. It excels in modern metal, progressive rock, fusion, gospel, and funk, thanks to its tight low end, present mids, and electronics capable of shifting from a snappy sound to a thicker, more aggressive tone.

The Sound

The craftsmanship combines a poplar top with a body blending okoumé and swamp ash: this achieves a balance between attack, definition, and sustain, with good projection of lows and clear highs. The neck-through construction enhances vibrational continuity, noticeable in note sustain and stability in the lower spectrum. The Nordstrand Big Single pickups deliver a muscular and articulate texture, typical of single coils (clarity, attack, presence), while the 3-band EQ and mid-frequency selector facilitate mix placement, from precise slap to more biting pick playing. The EQ bypass allows a return to a more immediate behavior, with passive tone control integrated into the treble knob.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

For transport, the recommended case is the Ibanez MRB350C and the recommended gig bag is the Ibanez IBB540-BK. To maintain the original feel, the bass is designed for D'Addario NYXL45130SL strings with gauges .045/.065/.080/.100/.130.
