Mode Series: Classic DNA, Modern Finish
Part of the Mode Series, the MDM1605 features a familiar silhouette updated with craftsmanship and electronics designed for today's needs: easy access to the upper frets on 24 frets, balanced standing position, and quick adjustments to switch from live to studio. The 1600 series is notably recognized by the combination of alder (foundation, musical mids) and marbled poplar top (unique look, strong visual personality), with a sober finish that highlights the wood grain.
For Which Bassist and Styles?
With its 34" / 864 mm scale length and a tight, clear low 5th string, the Ibanez MDM1605 clearly targets intermediate to expert bassists seeking a versatile, efficient, and expressive 5-string. It excels in pop, rock, funk, gospel, fusion, and session work, both fingerstyle and pick playing, while remaining very comfortable whenever a sharp attack and well-defined notes are needed.
The Sound
The two Delta S5J pickups provide the bite and clarity typical of a single-coil character, with a hum-canceling design to keep a clean and usable signal in dense mixes. The Sonitech S preamp adds a true toolbox: 3-band EQ, passive tone control, and push/pull bypass to instantly revert to 100% passive operation. The 3-position mid mini-switch, combined with the Hexa Mid system, offers 6 frequency centers (250/450/850 Hz or 350/600/1,000 Hz) to finely adjust thickness, presence, or attack. The MR5S bridge with isolated saddles enhances string separation, projection, and sustain, while the rosewood fingerboard maintains a pleasant roundness on attacks.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To stay as close as possible to the original setup, a set of D'Addario EXL165-5 (.045-.130) strings fits perfectly on this 34" / 864 mm 5-string. For reinforced transport, the Ibanez MRB350C hard case (MDM dedicated format) is a coherent option. The bass comes with its Ibanez gig bag.
