An SR Model Designed for Modern Versatility
The SR400EQM embodies the Ibanez SR spirit: a comfortable, fast bass oriented towards stage and studio use. With its spalted maple top and nyatoh body, it aims for a balance between aesthetics, dynamic response, and definition. The Custom Electronics and Power Tap electronics enhance the "Swiss Army knife" nature of the series, capable of adapting to many playing contexts.
Who Is It For, and In Which Styles?
This bass is aimed at intermediate to advanced bassists seeking a modern, precise, and highly adjustable 4-string. It is particularly suitable for rock, metal, funk, pop, and contemporary music styles where attack, clarity, and effective EQ are desired. Its slim neck and 24 frets also favor technical playing and high-register lines.
Sound Characteristics
The PowerSpan Dual Coil pickups deliver a detailed and expressive sound, with a high-end response that helps increase presence without losing the low-end foundation. The 3-band preamp allows quick sound shaping according to the room or mix, while the 3-way Power Tap truly changes the character: in Tap mode, the attack becomes more aggressive and articulated; in Series, the tone is thicker and warmer; and in Power Tap mode, you get a very usable compromise combining clarity and solidity. The craftsmanship contributes to the overall balance: the spalted maple top adds definition and precision, the nyatoh supports the low mids, and the jatoba fingerboard enhances rich mids with clear highs.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
For transport, Ibanez recommends the MB300C case and the IBB724-BK gig bag.
