An AZ Signature Tailored for Modern Jazz/Fusion
Ibanez developed the TQM2 in collaboration with Tom Quayle, a major figure in British jazz/fusion. In the spirit of the AZ models, this guitar aims for smooth playability and high precision to serve both legato phrases and hybrid picking. The specifications are clear: a responsive, stable, and highly nuanced instrument capable of staying "clean" and articulated even with an effects chain.
For Whom and Which Styles?
The TQM2 is primarily aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists seeking a versatile and demanding electric guitar with a neck comfort focused on speed and precision. It excels in jazz fusion, modern funk, sophisticated pop, clean/hi-fi rock, and any situation where right-hand dynamics and attack accuracy need to stand out clearly. Thanks to its numerous pickup combinations, it also adapts very well to session work and studio environments.
Sound
The combination of a flamed maple top and alder body delivers a very "AZ" balance: sharp attack, clear mids, and tight lows, with a strong presence in the mix. The roasted maple neck enhances stability and contributes to a quick response, ideal for legato runs and complex chords, while the rosewood fingerboard adds a warm foundation and well-centered mids.
On the electronics side, the TQM-S / TQM-S / TQM-H configuration (passive, ceramic) is designed to reproduce playing nuances with a natural and clean voicing, particularly effective with pedals. The dyna-MIX9 with Alter Switch multiplies tonal colors (switching humbucker/single coil with a simple press, and combinations simulating a humbucker character), allowing coverage of very diverse registers without losing definition. The Gotoh T1702B tremolo, with its brass components, promotes a rich overall resonance and convincing sustain while maintaining precise articulation.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To preserve the original feel and balance, favor a set of D'Addario EXL110 strings with gauges .010/.013/.017/.026/.036/.046 (same as factory setup). The hard case is included, ideal for daily transport and protection.
