A Contemporary "Upright": The Spirit of the Double Bass with Added Practicality

Designed for musicians who want to retain the playing style of the double bass while simplifying amplification and mobility, this electric upright bass belongs to the current family of "upright" instruments. Its neck-through construction and AeroSilk piezo system aim for an articulated, clear, and easy-to-control sound in modern contexts (rehearsal, studio, live). The more compact format and sound management via active electronics provide logistical comfort while maintaining an expressive and nuanced fretless approach.

Who Is It For and What Are Its Uses?

It is particularly suitable for electric bassists who want to approach double bass playing with familiar references (864 mm scale length, electric instrument feel), as well as for double bass players seeking a practical solution for amplification and transport. The fretless design emphasizes left-hand precision (intonation, placement, vibrato): it is a very relevant choice from intermediate to advanced levels, while remaining accessible to a motivated beginner thanks to modern ergonomics. Its natural playground includes jazz, fusion, world music, variety, and all stage situations where a sustained low end, clear attack, and fine nuances are desired without struggling with sound capture.

The Sound

The tonal character largely comes from the AeroSilk piezo pickup, designed to capture vibration precisely: the attack remains clear, articulations stand out distinctly, and notes retain definition even at low playing intensity. The active electronics provide direct and effective control: you can switch from a rounder, "woody" sound to a more punchy and focused signature, depending on your amplification and technique (fingerstyle, more percussive attacks, right-hand dynamics).

The neck-through construction with a maple/walnut assembly promotes stability and sustain, while the maple wings contribute to a clear and consistent response. The jatoba fingerboard enhances fretless comfort and highlights slides, vibratos, and micro-intonation variations: ideal for recapturing the expressiveness of a double bass while enjoying simple amplification and controllable timbre.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To maintain the same feel and response, a D'Addario ECB81 string set (factory-installed reference) is a reliable choice for replacement or backup. The included gigbag and TAMA Roadpro stand complete a setup highly oriented toward mobility, practical for moving seamlessly between rehearsals and performances.
