A modern upright in the spirit of the UB series
With the UB805, Ibanez takes a resolutely contemporary approach to the double bass: ergonomics designed for amplification, dedicated piezo electronics and a construction focused on stability. It follows in the tradition of electric uprights designed for bassists who want to recapture the range and feel of the double bass, while benefiting from an instrument that is easier to transport and manage on stage.
Who is it for, and which styles?
This 5-string electric double bass is aimed at intermediate to advanced bassists looking for a credible alternative to an acoustic double bass for live performance, studio work or playing at controlled volume. Its extended tuning, including a low B string, is particularly well suited to modern jazz, fusion, pop and electro-acoustic music, as well as any situation where definition and intonation accuracy need to remain consistent from one concert to the next.
The sound
The core of the UB805's sonic character comes from the AeroSilk piezo pickup and its active tone control: the result is a clear attack, excellent dynamic response and a very direct rendering of articulations. The per-string piezo gain adjustment, with controls arranged in string order on the back, allows you to fine-tune the balance and adapt the response to variations in touch. The jatoba key contributes to a pronounced midrange and brighter treble, while the maple construction helps retain clarity and sustain, particularly valuable on a 5-string instrument.
Recommended compatible accessories
To preserve the original response and feel, we recommend using a D'Addario ECB81-5 string set when replacing the strings. The factory string gauges are: .045/.065/.080/.100/.132.
