Istanbul Agop 18" Custom Special Edition Crash

Historical Context and Positioning Within the Range

At Istanbul Agop, the tradition of Turkish artisanal manufacturing is expressed through cymbals with a lively character, featuring that "organic" feel that responds immediately to touch. The Special Edition Fusion Ride 22 fits within this philosophy, positioned for drummers seeking a more modern definition and a stronger presence. It presents itself as a more muscular alternative to the aesthetic of the Special Edition Jazz series, while preserving the harmonic richness and the grain typical of the brand.

Who This Drum/Instrument Is For

This ride cymbal is primarily aimed at intermediate to advanced drummers who want a cymbal capable of remaining clear in a busy mix without losing the finesse necessary for nuances. It is particularly suitable for styles where one quickly shifts from delicate playing to a more assertive attack, such as fusion, funk, contemporary jazz, and Latin music, or more broadly any repertoire demanding both delicacy and power. In a hybrid set, it naturally integrates whenever large dynamic variations need to be managed, from ghost notes to marked accents.

Features and Innovations

The Special Edition Fusion Ride 22 is designed to offer a more dense and articulated response, to maintain clear stick definition and solid control during fast passages. Its "Fusion" orientation emphasizes a more direct feel and a stronger presence, while retaining the Turkish artisanal craftsmanship and typical Istanbul Agop musicality. It pairs particularly well with crashes or a hi-hat from the Fusion series, but also works very well with other cymbals featuring a dark and defined character, to build a coherent and balanced set.

Sound

This type of ride is designed to provide a balance between body and precision. The sound highlights a more readable stick definition, with a response that remains structured when accented, helping to "lock in" the tempo in modern contexts. This sense of density contributes to a firmer presence in the mix, useful in fusion and funk, while maintaining the harmonic complexity that charms fans of Turkish artisanal cymbals.

In styles like contemporary jazz or Latin music, this articulation allows for detailed patterns, subtle placements, and touch variations without losing clarity. It fits into a set with contrasting dynamics, maintaining organic musicality and reliable response, from nuanced playing to more powerful passages.
