iZotope Plasma EDU is a saturation plug-in designed to add character to your tracks and buses, from simple harmonic thickening to more pronounced distortion. It is suitable for both mixing (vocals, drums, guitars, synths, instrument buses) and mastering when you want to enhance the sense of presence, density, and cohesion while maintaining control over transient impact and spectral balance.
Main Features
Adaptive Saturation: More Character, in the Right Place
Unlike fixed saturation, Plasma adjusts its behavior based on the incoming signal. The result: you more easily achieve a sensation of "warmth" and "glue" without constantly compensating with complex settings. This approach is especially useful on very dynamic sources (vocals, percussion, bass) or on buses where the content changes constantly.
Attack, Release, and Band Control: Sculpt the Energy
The attack and release parameters let you decide whether the saturation should catch the initial impact (to emphasize attack, add bite) or focus on the body of the sound (to thicken, round off, and stabilize). You can also adjust the frequency range affected: useful to avoid muddying the low end or, conversely, to thicken a targeted area (low-mids, presence, brightness).
Independent Mid/Side: Saturation That Respects the Stereo Image
In Mid/Side processing, Plasma helps you keep a solid center while opening up the sides, or conversely "calm down" an overly aggressive stereo. Separate Mid and Side control also applies to attack and release phases, facilitating precise work on width, depth perception, and impact without unbalancing the mix.
Overdrive Fader and Presets: Immediate Efficiency
The Overdrive fader adds extra saturation when you want to move from subtle coloration to a more pronounced grit. And with 49 presets, you have quick starting points to explore textures, speed up production workflow, or maintain consistent coloration across multiple tracks.

Can Plasma be used on two computers?
The license allows 2 simultaneous activations. Activation is done online and an internet connection is required for installation.
How to adjust saturation on transients and frequencies?
The Attack and Release settings determine the saturation's effect on the initial impact or on the body of the signal. The frequency range processed can be targeted to preserve the low end or to thicken a specific area. The Mid and Side controls also have independent attack and release settings.
