The Jackson Audio Bloom v2 MIDI captures the spirit of studio optical compressors: naturally musical compression, renowned for its transparency and ability to smooth out harshness without altering the guitar tone. Where many compressors quickly become intrusive, the Bloom aims for a more "finished" sound, as if your signal passed through a clean processing chain, with wideband EQ and a perfectly calibrated boost. This v2 version adds an essential dimension for modern rigs: MIDI control, ideal for automating your dynamics live or in the studio.

The Bloom v2 MIDI is designed for guitarists (and more broadly instrumentalists) who want to master dynamics rather than just "compress." It excels in blues, country, pop, funk, rock, and ambient: anywhere a clear attack, singing sustain, or consistent levels between picking and chords are sought. In the studio, it helps stabilize the signal before delay or reverb, and live, it becomes a formidable tool to switch from clean rhythm playing to a lead that cuts through without adjusting the amp. It's also an excellent "always-on" foundation to add roundness, especially with the Blend control that preserves the original playing feel.
Controls, modes, and MIDI: a pedal designed to control everything
The Bloom v2 MIDI is built around three activatable blocks: COMP, EQ, and BLOOM. For compression, you have 6 presets always accessible, each optimized for a different feel (attack and release): Limiter, Country, R and B, Ballad, Joey (Slide), and Aux. The "Slide" mode uses dual compression to increase sustain while remaining clear, very useful for slide, singing leads, or fingerstyle parts.
Front panel controls allow quick and effective adjustments: Comp for intensity, Volume for output level, and Blend to mix compressed and dry signals (perfect for retaining punch and attack). The 3-band EQ (Baxandall) is activated by pressing both footswitches simultaneously, offering wide bandwidth and musical action to shape tone without a "filter" effect. Finally, the Bloom section offers two behaviors: a short press triggers an immediate boost, while a long press initiates a progressive fade to the set level, with programmable rise and fall times (handy for "swelling" a sustained note or smoothing dynamics in a passage).
MIDI crowns the whole package: selection of the 6 compression modes, On/Off for COMP / EQ / BLOOM sections, and control of the Bloom level, with continuous expression via MIDI possible. The pedal can also be set to any MIDI channel (1 to 16), facilitating integration into a switching system or multi-pedal rig.
The sound
The Bloom v2 MIDI's signature is a soft and controlled optical compression: it can remain very subtle to "polish" your tone, or become more present to enhance sustain and even out level differences. The EQ is designed to stay natural, without artificial scooping, and the boost / bloom section adds presence without excessive coloration, making it an ideal ally before an overdrive or just before the input of an amp already on the edge of crunch.
