An Iconic Rhoads Straight from Scott Ian’s Arsenal
The Jackson Legend RR22 NOT Signature Scott Ian pays tribute to a guitar that has become inseparable from the history of thrash metal. In the early 1980s, Scott Ian adopted this custom Rhoads with its radical look, instantly recognisable by the " NOT " inscription on its white body. It accompanied him during the recordings and tours that established Anthrax among the most influential bands on the American metal scene.
This limited edition captures the visual spirit and design choices of the original instrument: an angular Rhoads silhouette, glossy Pearl White finishing, artwork on the front and side faces, chrome hardware and intentionally streamlined electronics. It is aimed at guitarists looking for a characterful electric guitar designed above all for efficiency, precision and sonic impact.
A Guitar Built for Thrash Metal and High-Speed Riffs
With its single bridge pickup, fast neck and Floyd Rose, this Jackson is particularly well suited to intermediate and advanced guitarists working in thrash metal, speed metal, heavy metal, hard rock and modern metal. Its ergonomics encourage forceful pick attacks, tight palm-muted rhythms and expressive lead lines.
The neck-through construction provides a very comfortable sense of continuity under the left hand. Its ebony key, combined with a compound 12" to 16" / 304.8 to 406.4 mm radius, makes it equally well suited to powerful chords near the nut, wide bends and fast runs in the upper register. The 22 jumbo frets offer precise touch, particularly well suited to energetic playing techniques.
A Direct, Cutting Tone with Plenty of Sustain
The alder body provides a balanced tonal foundation, with present mids, clear highs and a sufficiently firm bass response to retain definition with high levels of saturation. This tonewood is particularly effective for fast riffs: every note remains articulate, even as the gain increases and the playing becomes denser.
The neck-through construction, made from three pieces of maple and reinforced with graphite rods, promotes generous sustain as well as excellent structural stability. Maple adds attack and clarity, while the ebony key emphasises note precision, with an immediate response under the pick. The result is a tight, punchy tone perfectly suited to metal rhythms.
Installed in the bridge position, the Seymour Duncan JB TB-4 is a humbucker renowned for its generous output, expressive mids and ability to cut through a dense mix. Its aggressive character delivers hard-hitting riffs, easily triggered artificial harmonics and singing solos. The electronics focus on a single volume control, with no selector, for a straightforward approach: one powerful main sound, immediately accessible.
The double-locking Floyd Rose 1000 Series completes this performance-oriented character. It allows dive bombs, wide vibrato and vibrato pull-up effects while maintaining excellent tuning stability, provided that careful adjustment is carried out when changing string gauges. Its 37 mm bridge block also contributes to the instrument’s dynamic response and sustain.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
The guitar comes with a Jackson padded gig bag, suited to its Rhoads shape and useful for protecting it during transport. To preserve the Floyd Rose’s original settings and vibrato balance, nickel-plated electric guitar strings in .009-.042 gauge are recommended, matching the factory-installed set. If the string gauge is changed, the spring tension and intonation will need to be adjusted.
