An Analog Octaver That Embraces Vintage Heritage

At a time when digital octaves can be surgical, the Double Dragon makes a radical choice: looking back and reviving the analog octave divider technology popularized several decades ago. This family of "pre-precision" circuits shaped the personality of many legendary octavers: a full low end, lively tracking, and a unique way of behaving when playing beyond isolated notes.
In this philosophy, the Double Dragon doesn't try to "perfectly copy" you. Instead, it aims to play with you: when you attack a riff with single notes, it becomes a bassline machine. When you let a double-stop or chord ring out, the circuit can stutter, skip, struggle... opening doors that overly tame octavers dare not cross.

For Which Guitarists and Bassists? And In Which Styles?

The Double Dragon is designed for musicians seeking weight, grain, and a truly "organic" feel under the fingers. If you like riffs that already sound like a guitar-bass duo, the lower octave quickly becomes addictive: ideal for rock, muscular blues, garage, stoner, alternative, or to thicken parts in metal without losing attack.
For texture lovers, the DRY blend and lo-fi response on chords allow you to explore vintage synth sounds, hypnotic ostinatos, and imperfect but inspiring layers. In the studio, it's a double-edged weapon to double a take, create a "fake" unison, or generate happy accidents. Live, it fills the space when the band thins out (trio, power duo) and gives the impression that your guitar has "doubled in size."
On bass, the "vintage octave" spirit is particularly relevant to thicken a line, reinforce a chorus, or provide an immediately recognizable sonic signature, provided you embrace the small tracking quirks that make analog charm.

Controls, Modes, and Switching Logic: Simple but Highly Exploitable

The Double Dragon is designed to get straight to the point, with controls that immediately impact your playing. VOLUME adjusts the overall output level and offers a boost margin: handy for cutting through the mix, pushing a drive section, or turning the pedal into a true "always-on" when the octaves are off. DRY blends your direct signal into the mix: at max, you retain your attack and definition; lowering it moves you toward a 100% effect sound, more glitchy and more "synth."
OCT- controls the lower octave level, the foundation of the sound: thick, analog, with that typical behavior that feels like laying a bass under every note. OCT+ controls the upper octave and its distortion: a tone somewhere between an "Octavia" vibe and a rougher aggression, with a midrange sting that helps cut through a dense mix.
The footswitch logic is as important as the sound: the left footswitch toggles the main effect on/off. The right footswitch engages the OCT+ circuit. A deliberate design choice: the main effect must be on for OCT+ to work. For "octave up only" use, simply activate OCT+ then turn OCT- down to minimum.
Finally, the Double Dragon loves to be surrounded: an overdrive after (especially a mid-focused drive) solidifies the low end and stabilizes the foundation; a fuzz after turns imperfections into controlled chaos; a vibrato pitch or subtle modulation can enhance the analog synth feel. The more you stack, the more its "quirks" become musical material.

The Sound

The heart of the Double Dragon is a dense and meaty lower octave, with dynamics that reward precise attack and monophonic riffs. You feel that natural compression and the way it "clings" to the note: not clinical, but alive. On clean playing, it gives the impression of an oversized guitar; on already saturated playing, it adds a low layer that can make you believe a bass is following your right hand exactly.
On chords, the pedal reveals its lo-fi identity: tracking is not there to flatter perfection but to generate movement, struggle, and occasional stutter. It's precisely this character that makes it inspiring for writing: a pedal that reacts, surprises, and forces you to play differently. The upper octave adds a dirty, expressive sparkle, more "heroic guitar" than "clean octave," and its midrange emphasis helps maintain presence even when the lower octave takes up a lot of space.
