Jodyjazz DV NY 7* - BARITONE

The DV NY Series: Jody Jazz Heritage Serving the Baritone

Created by Jody Espina, the Jody Jazz brand has established itself through mouthpieces designed to meet the demands of today's musicians, from advanced students to professionals. Each model is crafted with meticulous attention, and the DV NY series follows this philosophy: offering a high-end baritone saxophone mouthpiece designed to deliver a rich and authentic sound while maintaining great ease of play.

For Which Baritone Saxophonist?

The Jody Jazz DV NY Baritone is aimed at intermediate to professional saxophonists seeking a mouthpiece that "sings" immediately, with natural control and quick response. It excels in traditional jazz, swing, big band, rhythm and blues, and more broadly in any situation where a warm, thick, and expressive baritone sound is desired without excessive aggressiveness. If you enjoy "old school" tonal colors while wanting a modern-feeling mouthpiece (free, efficient), this series is particularly relevant.

Sound and Design

The DV NY's signature comes from its deep chamber, which directs the sound toward more roundness and a "velvety" harmonic spectrum, with less brightness than the standard DV series. The response is described as very easy, with low resistance : you quickly achieve a stable air column, generous low register, and full midrange while maintaining presence. Its design also aims for a jazz sound typical of the 40s, 50s, and 60s, with a free blowing feel that facilitates dynamics and articulation.

In comparison, the DV series is described as brighter and more projecting, while the DV NY favors a more traditional and darker character. On stage or in section, this design allows for a broad and solid baritone sound without harshness, with an immediately recognizable identity.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

The mouthpiece is delivered with a ligature and a mouthpiece cap, allowing you to play right out of the box. For maintenance, a mouthpiece swab (sized for saxophone mouthpieces) and mouthpiece patches can help preserve the table and comfort without relying on a specific model.
