Within the KORG range, the XE20 positions itself as a digital arranger piano: it combines a "piano" approach (88-note keyboard, weighted touch, carefully crafted concert sounds) with a genuine automatic accompaniment engine (styles, variations, tempo and balance controls). The concept is simple: to offer an evolving instrument capable of supporting both early learning stages and the needs of a musician who wants to quickly establish rhythm and harmony for playing, practicing, composing, or leading a musical moment.

Keyboard Design

The KORG XE20 SP features an 88-key graded hammer action keyboard, with a heavier touch in the bass and lighter in the treble, to closely mimic the behavior of an acoustic piano. The velocity sensitivity (4 curves) allows you to adjust the keyboard's response to your playing, from pianissimo to fortissimo, whether practicing with headphones or playing through the internal amplification. To vary textures and play in a more "orchestral" manner, the Split (keyboard division) and Layer (Dual) modes facilitate classic combinations: bass on the left and piano on the right, piano plus pads, or layering sounds to thicken a chorus.

Sound Quality

The stereo PCM sound generation relies on carefully sampled sounds, including two grand pianos inspired by Bösendörfer and Fazioli from the "KRONOS" libraries. The result is a precise attack, beautiful sustain, and a credible tone suitable for piano repertoire ranging from classical to pop ballads. Additionally, the XE20 SP offers 705 multi-sampled sounds (keyboards, strings, brass, guitars, synths, and accompaniment-friendly sounds), enough to build complete pieces without needing multiple devices. The 184-voice polyphony helps maintain clarity when stacking layers (Layer), using accompaniment, or holding the pedal. Finally, the built-in stereo 18 W x 2 system ensures broad sound dispersion for living rooms, classrooms, or rehearsals, with two (57 x 126 mm) x 2 speakers designed for comfortable close-range listening.
