Historical Context and Positioning in the Range

Laney is among the British brands that have built their reputation on an obsession with sound detail and a very "musician-focused" approach to amplification. The A-Solo fits this philosophy by targeting a very specific need: to offer a compact, modern, and reliable solution for acoustic instruments, capable of handling both an instrument and vocals while remaining easy to adjust. With its Class D design and onboard processing, it positions itself as a versatile acoustic guitar amp, designed to accompany both rehearsals and small gigs without compromising clarity.

Who This Amp Is For

The A-Solo is aimed at acoustic guitarists (folk, pop, fingerstyle, chanson, worship, acoustic jazz) seeking transparent and dynamic amplification, with enough power to support a duo or a small ensemble. Its two identical channels make it particularly relevant for singer-songwriters: guitar on one channel, microphone on the other, with consistent settings and immediate usability.

In context, it is perfectly comfortable in the home studio for working at realistic volume, in rehearsal to maintain clear definition in the mix, and live to sound clean without multiplying gear. Beginner musicians will appreciate the simplicity, while more experienced players will make use of the DI, effects loop, and DSP voicings to tailor their sound to each venue.

Features and Innovations

The heart of the A-Solo is a 2 identical channels architecture designed for flexibility: each channel accepts an instrument or microphone source via a combo XLR / 6.35mm Jack input. There is a 3-band EQ to balance bass, mids, and treble, complemented by a handy Shape control to quickly shift the overall character (useful to tame an overly bright guitar, open up mids, or add presence without starting from scratch).

On the effects side, the amp includes a reverb to add space to the playing, and an assignable chorus to thicken an arpeggio or provide a pleasant width in picking. The DSP section also offers 4 types of speaker response : an asset for adapting the feel (more direct, rounder, more "monitor"-style, etc.) depending on the guitar, microphone, or room acoustics.

For the stage, Laney has included anti-feedback technology combined with a phase inverter : two essential tools when an electro-acoustic starts to "ring," especially in the bass or low-mid frequencies. Finally, the effects loop allows clean insertion of external effects (delay, more advanced reverb, looper) after the preamp, to maintain a clear and controlled signal.

Sound Character

With its 60W Class D power, the A-Solo favors a fast, clean, and efficient reproduction, with enough headroom to keep definition without squashing dynamics. The 8-inch dual-cone speaker aims for even and intelligible dispersion, interesting for acoustic instruments where string articulation and the upper spectrum matter as much as the low end.

The sonic philosophy is clearly oriented towards fidelity : a clear clean tone, sharp transients, and a response that highlights both string attack and playing nuances (fingerstyle, light strumming, more pronounced attacks). The Shape control, 3-band EQ, and DSP responses allow shifting from a "woody and round" sound to a more modern presence while maintaining a clean foundation. Add reverb for depth, chorus for breadth, and you get an acoustic sound ready to play, consistent from one venue to another.
