A Modern Reinterpretation of a Legendary Treble Booster

The Range Master is one of those circuits that has become essential in the history of electric guitar: a booster with a strong character, designed to drive the input of a tube amp, tighten the lows, and emphasize the attack. This is precisely the kind of approach that helped forge massive and articulate rock tones, capable of remaining clear even with heavy saturation.

This Tony Iommi signature pedal retains that "treble booster" DNA while opening it up to more modern situations. Whereas the original concept mainly aimed to boost the upper spectrum, this version offers more gain and expanded EQ options so each guitarist can find their balance between bite, thickness, and presence.

Who This Pedal Is For and Which Styles It Excels In

If you're looking for a guitar boost pedal that transforms how your amp responds to your playing, you're in the right place. It's suitable for both intermediate guitarists and seasoned musicians: no menus or presets needed, everything is adjusted by ear in seconds, and the pedal quickly becomes an "always-on" depending on your style.

It excels in rock, hard rock, and metal genres, especially for powerful riffs, leads that need to cut through the mix, or rhythms that gain precision. In the studio, it's a formidable tool for placing a guitar in the track without drowning it; live, it helps maintain attack and definition as the band volume rises. On a pedalboard, it can also serve as a boost before distortion or ahead of a hot amp to achieve more sustain and responsiveness.

Controls and Settings: From "Hit Your Amp" to Fine Sculpting

The philosophy of this pedal is clear: push and shape. The Drive and Volume pair lets you choose between a straightforward level increase (to drive the preamp stage) and a more saturated, rougher boost depending on your signal chain. Drive controls the amount of grit and compression feel, while Volume adjusts the overall output level to hit your amp harder or balance your volume in bypass.

To go beyond a "one-color" booster, the EQ section adds versatility: Low and Hi adjust the bottom end and brightness respectively. This is especially useful if you switch guitars (single-coils or humbuckers), amps, or play through very different cabinets. Finally, the Mid switch provides an extra lever on the mids: ideal for enhancing solo attack, thickening rhythm parts, or conversely opening the sound to let a lower tuning breathe.

Note: the buffered output helps maintain a stable and precise signal, especially if your chain includes multiple pedals, a tuner at the start of the line, or long cable runs. The result: less high-end loss, more consistency, and a sound that stays "present" all the way to the amp.

The Sound

Expect a boost with a strong character, designed to make the amp react rather than simply increase volume. The typical sound of a well-set treble booster is a guitar that "pops" out of the speaker: more attack, better clarity on palm mutes, and harmonics that reveal themselves when you dig in. With the Low/Hi settings and Mid switch, you can go from a tight and biting tone (perfect for cutting riffs) to a thicker, denser texture suited for singing leads and big chords.

Dynamics are central to the experience: lowering the guitar volume cleans up and refines the grit; turning it up full gives a more aggressive, saturated push with a feeling of increased sustain. This is a pedal that rewards precise playing and integrates naturally into an "amp + guitar" approach, especially if you like controlling your saturation by hand.
