Historical context and positioning within the range

The kokiriko is a slat percussion instrument, appreciated for its dry and articulated textures, often used to enrich a groove without weighing it down. This miniature version adopts the principle of the traditional instrument in an even more portable format, designed for musicians who want to add a percussive color to their set, both in the studio and on stage.

Who this drum/instrument is for

This Kokiriko is aimed both at beginners (immediate handling, sound easy to control) and experienced percussionists looking for an expressive and quick-to-integrate tool. It is perfectly suited to styles that appreciate rhythmic details and texture effects: world music, acoustic, pop, folk, theater, sound design, and supplementary percussion in live setups.

Features and innovations

Thanks to its wooden slats assembled via a leather strap, the instrument produces a sharp snap when moved, with a feeling of flexibility that helps maintain a steady flow. The wooden handles at both ends secure the playing and facilitate variations (accents, doubles, short rolls), while remaining compact for transport.

Sound

The wooden slats generate a clear attack and very readable articulation: the sound is clear, precise and unobtrusive, making it easy to place in a mix. The resonance remains short, with controlled sustain, ideal for outlining rhythmic patterns, emphasizing a build-up, or creating a more textured "shaker/clap" effect.

The miniature format promotes a quick response and immediate control: interesting rhythmic effects are quickly achieved, from simple supporting backbeats to finer patterns complementing a cajon, a percussion set, or a drum kit.
