Summary of This Score
Six Studies is a set of six études for pedal harp conceived as a complete technical workshop, while maintaining true musicality through contrasting tempi, time signatures, and characters. This collection is aimed at harpists wishing to consolidate their skills and develop a more stable, flexible, and precise technique, whether in lessons, at the conservatory, or through independent practice.
Each piece emphasizes a key aspect of harp technique. Study I, Allegro (3/4, tempo 120), establishes playing energy and clear rhythmic placement. Study II, Vivace (4/4, tempo 132), specifically targets finger flexibility with a finger sequence indicated for the right hand (4-1-3-1-2-1-3-1-4), excellent for working on evenness and fluidity. Study III, Lento (3/4, tempo 48), focuses on arpeggios : an essential passage to gain regularity, tone, and continuity of phrasing.
Study IV, Andante con moto (3/4, tempo 92), continues the same flexibility goal as the second study, while adding chords placed on beat "1", which enhances attack precision and hand control. Study V, Con Bravura (6/8), offers chord work with few pedal changes, perfect for developing projection and confidence without overcomplicating mechanical management. Finally, Study VI, Leggiero Volante (4/4), longer than the others, further deepens finger flexibility and introduces glissandi as well as pedal changes, for a more comprehensive approach to the concert harp.
