Summary of This Collection
Contemporary Pieces for 2nd Cycle Flutists is part of the "Flûte du merle et sifflement des crapauds" series, two volumes dedicated to flutists in training (1st and 2nd cycles). The goal is clear: to enable tomorrow's performer to familiarize themselves with today's sound materials, through pieces written for conservatory students and truly brought to life by them in practice and performance situations.
Directed by Gaëlle Belot (flute teacher and harmony conductor at the Conservatoire d'Ivry-sur-Seine), this collection was designed as a progressive framework for discovering the contemporary repertoire for solo flute. By commissioning composers and guiding them, she steered the writing to best meet the pedagogical challenges of the 2nd cycle: rhythmic precision, timbre listening, breath control, articulation, musicality, and reading autonomy.
The assembled pieces thus provide ideal material for constructing varied sessions: sound work, setup, interpretation, and aesthetic openness. For the teacher, it is a valuable resource to integrate contemporary music into the student's curriculum without making it intimidating; for the student, it is an opportunity to develop curiosity, refine playing, and enrich their audition program with current works.
