Summary of This Method

This manual covers the technical and musical skills of the first year of Musical Training, with a clear organization: each chapter revolves around a central concept, explored over several sessions. This structure facilitates the development of automatisms (pulse, rhythmic precision, pitch recognition, value articulation) while allowing the necessary time for assimilation, week by week.

The strength of this approach lies in the constant connection between voice and instrument. Exercises in melodic or rhythmic memorization, rhythmic readings with or without note names, as well as sung readings, are designed to be first sung, then played on the instrument practiced by the student. Only note reading is approached as spoken reading. This "theory to instrument" approach makes musical training more concrete, develops the inner ear, improves intonation, and strengthens musical understanding through direct experience.

The content is based on a broad repertoire, mixing classical pieces and more contemporary influences: Prokofiev (The Love for Three Oranges), Gershwin (An American in Paris), Ravel (Valse noble et sentimentale No. 2), Satie (Gymnopédie No. 3), Mozart (Sonata KV 331, Rondo alla Turca), Haydn (Symphony No. 63), Chopin (Mazurka No. 2), Beethoven (Sonata No. 18, Op. 31 No. 1), Brahms (Little Sister), as well as traditional songs (Billy Boy, Vania, Finnish songs, Negro spirituals) and several titles by Thuillier (Balafon, Funky Music, Swing Baby Swing, Rapline, Guajira de Pasquita, Baila, chica). An ideal resource to energize the Music Theory class and maintain student engagement from the first year onward.
